New Lexus RX 450H Review | The Ultimate Hybrid SUV?
another review stated not fun to drive and lots of body roll! Whats the truth now?
This gen or the latest?
Body roll adds to comfort, we took one of these to Goodwood 700 miles, if you can drive - it’s fun, saying that Xsara Picasso lists like a boat as does our C124 and we love those - these drive well with decent power and if you can drive an SUV properly it’s fun on a back lane. Too many journalists review cars on a 10 mile journey… you can believe who you like, the only way you’ll know is to test drive a decent trip.
From California - enjoyed your review.
Thank you, D H - glad you liked it!
Excellent review!
Thank you aj
Please can you try and review the 2024 update model. I’m interested in the new 85x sportline plus but can’t find any reliable reviews (or road tests for more than 10 mins, just had a 48 hour test from Ford on the Mach e!)
Thanks, Craig - we will see what we can do. Glad you enjoyed it. How did you find the Mach e?
@@PlanetautoUKI absolutely loved the Mach e! It exceeded my expectations in nearly every way, we took it from Southport to Barbon just passed Devils bridge. The steering was a little numb as many reviewers have noted but then it was not much different to my Jag XF. Much like the Jag it really felt like a premium brand, the Mustang branding made sense over Ford. Something I was sceptical about. Unfortunately it’s proving difficult to get a decent amount of time in the seat of either a hyundai, Kia, or Skoda.
@1982craigyboy that’s a decent run, I used to visit Barbon hill climb, not far from home once, I enjoyed driving the Mach-e GT, quick was not the word more lightning, we had it briefly at SMMT drove maybe 3 mile, seemed a decent drive, can’t say much more really 😮 I do remember it being well appointed inside. I like the new Explorer, currently trying to get one. Yes it’s strange currently as press it’s not particularly easy to get cars, budgets, declining ev sales etc all taking their toll.
@@PlanetautoUKI marshalled at Barbon Hillclimb since around 1999. Ran start line for about 10+ years too. Unfortunately bad health has stopped me attending. Great little event and food after at the Barbon inn always good! I have a short list of enyaq 85x, Mach e select, Ioniq 5 (either awd ultimate or namsan rwd). An ultimate motability face off would make a great video 😉 I’m available as a spare driver and customer opinion too! 😁 Thanks for the replies, much appreciated and value your opinions!
@1982craigyboy wow, small world - if you’re ever up these sides shout and we’ll catch up. Annabelle is limited on what she can do too after her incident, we must adapt and overcome. Some cool vehicles shortlisted 😀 you’re very welcome and thank you for the kind words.
Which exact trim/spec are you testing in this clip? What is the OTR price (in ££s)? Thanks.
Hi AJ - all of it is covered in the review, and we've popped it into to the description too! What did you think of the review and part 1 of our road trip?
Great lads well done ( better than Carwow )
Thank you 🤩 Alex
Good review but what was with the cow noise at 8.35? Lol.
At last somebody has noticed, however I missed the opportunity to follow it up with a proper moo 🐮 and thank you ☺️
Very interesting, but a bit too speedy for me until I slowed down the playback speed (which made you both sound under the influence - which I'm sure you were not 😂). Thanks so much! 🤗
We’re trying to find the perfect balance, C shafted people’s attention spans, generally, I’m going to have to slow us down, maybe add a little dart left to right too - also we found out this is likely the last North 🫠 EV’s are having a go of it currently 🥺
Good review. From my test drive, the car is very much a no nonsense car and its good to see that Vitara have built this themselves rather than use Toyota. Main issue I found is the gearbox. AMT's are obsolete and not many car manufacturers use them anymore due to its weaknesses. It is far too jerky and slow clunky gear changes which is why Dual clutch transmissions were introduced which overcomes the issues of AMTs. I have no idea why Suzuki would use technology that no one wants anymore (other than cost reasons) and I suspect Suzuki won't sell many of these however thats not to say people shouldn't buy them. I believe this car is aimed at a particular segment group one where patience is required and believe in the brands values. I don't think its suited to regular town city driving, rather more long distance dual carriage / motorway where you are just cruising along but for me it just doesn't quite cut it where other hybrids offer so much more for the money. In all fairness it is quite under powdered to be considered a hybrid.
The thing is Suzuki know this and that’s why they offer manual too, this box does what it says on the tin in both S Cross and this - it’s the same with using Jimny engine with a CVT - the thing is it’s economical and works, and generally Suzuki owners are happy with that and it keeps prices down. PS drive the new Swift with a manual 😀 Thank you GTZ
@@PlanetautoUK According to my local Suzuki dealer in East London, they have struggled to sell the Vitara Hybrid since its launch. I would choose CVT over the AMT but neither would be my main preferred choice as torque convertor gearboxes which Suzuki used in the previous models were far more superior and better suited to this vehicle especially as its an off roader as well. Moving forward its unlikely Suzuki will use the AMT, next year the Suzuki evx should be launched, Suzuki's first EV car. Can't wait to see this. Hopefully you will be able to review it if you manage to get hold of one :)
@gtz101 ah yes, the AMT is a strange how do you do, it’s alright with leisurely driving anything remotely non and it struggles to decide what to do. Their manuals are great and CVT better than AMT in my experience - the new ev looks great, we’ll have a chat with Suzuki and see, we enjoyed attending the new Swift launch, manual 😀 thank you gtz
Bro ıt ıs mr 2
Is what MR 2 😀?
Bought Performance (exellence) model in Aus, China and Aus has free trade agreement, so it's around (70000 AUD drive away price) 36800 GBP for top model
Wow, bargain for an amazing car, congrats Chris
@@PlanetautoUK I hope Xiaomi SU7 could sell in Australia soon. It looks amazing
@chrissun2882 I l check it out 😀
Ben, would you pick an awd ultimate or a Mustang Mach e select tech pack? I know the ioniq is faster but the Mustang took to twisty b roads better. I can’t make my mind up!
Hello, this one or an N? I left a Gallardo through the Trough of Bowland in the AWD as for N, yet to find out, I do like the Mustang but I’d highly likely choose the 5.
And more important, it's gonna last for a looooong time 🥳🥳🥳
Indeed 😀
So for the decent trim ultimate its 50 grand come on get real save yourselves 15 to 20 grand on a full hybrid five mins to fill up 500 miles stop falling for this electric con oh and don't forget once you've spent your 50 grand still got to buy a home charger thats a grand even more if your house electrics can't take one
You could always go for the N £65k bargain for what you get
I have a 2024 Ioniq 5 and am waiting for the delivery of a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance. Tesla and Hyundai (and Kia) are leading the way in the electric vehicle era. Personally, I hope that under the leadership of these two companies, manufacturers from countries like Germany, Japan, and China will rapidly develop, enabling more people to purchase electric vehicles at prices comparable to conventional internal combustion vehicles. While driving an electric vehicle certainly saves on fuel costs, the high price of the car and increased insurance premiums offset the savings from fuel.
Oh very nice, we have a Y or a 3 coming in a week or so, first Tesla review since the S P100D a fair few years ago. It’s amazing how fast it’s evolving, yes it’s disappointing that the government etc decided not to continue to support the ev role out, electric prices etc. They make a lot of sense with a type 2, otherwise it’s harder and harder to justify, sadly. Thank you Hwang and keep us posted on your adventures.
‘That’s a lot of money for the car’ - there, fixed that for you!
£42k isn’t a lot any more, a super mini petrol is £18k upwards, and a small EV well… and it’s worth the money.
Sorry it is a lot of money for a car, that's all it is a car, no wonder manufacturers have started charging ridiculous prices when people comment it is good value or whatever.
Cars like food, electric etc are getting exponentially more expensive, plus ev tech is at a premium anyway, prices are competitive.
Yet people had the chance to get on the EV ladder and buy cheaper, but no The EU are slapping big tariffs around because China did a better job than the west, which is a joke when Western manufacturers are building cars in China, Why because it is cheaper to do so and then ship them to the west with a big mark up. It is all about the money 💰
I've got the original Ioniq, and it's a great car, but they've progressed so quickly. Amazing thing.
They are, have you driven one of these? It’d be nice hear how they compare, and more so which you prefer the original seeing as you are a long term subscribee 😀
@@PlanetautoUK I haven't as yet, but I am planning to do so -- I'll let you know!
@Ambienfinity ooo exciting, thank you
💪🏼
🛞
Just so you know, its a single xenon with a pop away cover in the light cluster!
I'm also aware this was 5 years ago😂
Thank you, we had the car 20 mins on a Fabia launch 😀
About as much use to those who can’t charge at home , me , as a dartboard would be to my cat . It’s crying out for a 2ltr turbo under the bonnet . For anyone that’s mad enough, used ones start at well under 20 grand .
Not for the Ultimate AWD Gallardo slayer - until regs change petrol will still be PE no1, at least here.
All I can see now is cats playing darts 🎯 🐱
Hello all - please bear in mind that this review was filmed last year, so the prices are now as follows: Premium Trim = £43,445.00 Ultimate Trim = £49,945.00 Namsan Edition = £54,445.00 Thank you, and enjoy.
I see What Car rates the 2017-2024 Swift as the most reliable used small Car (June 2024). Given a 99.5% reliability rating.
That’s phenomenal, thank you Derek mind you knowing Suzuki and their ethos, it’s what they strive for, great to see their efforts pay off handsomely.
Ford is for bisexual people
That’s a sweeping statement…
If you had to choose this, the fabia or arona that you have all reviewed which would you choose ?
Hmm, Fabia as it’s different and has the dynamics of a Golf plus the 1.5 is pretty quick.
It looks like a monster at night
🥷👹
I have the Peugeot 3008 hybrid4 300hp and it’s real good I have it in the black pack with red
Decent power and what a colour scheme 😀
Good review. I've ordered one today and decided to go for the ultra model. I want something economical to run and reliable. I previously had a 2015 swift which I always enjoyed.
Thank you Paul, yes we loved our experience, impressive dynamics, and superb economy. We’ve always been a fan of Swift, a really fun yet relatively practical car. Which colour have you gone for?
@@PlanetautoUK I've gone for the Frontier blue with black roof. I thought the two tone colour options looked quite smart!
@paultaylor6326 yes they do, that will look very swish, our classic W124 is two tone, it’s great to see more two tone returning, enjoy- here’s to a speedy delivery.
I was an eoghties gamer and now im a rocket league gamer it looks like a large fast fennec. Anyway im going down to york tomorrow to sign the papers for an awd ultimate. I can wait. Thanks.
Wow, as I reply Annabelle and I are playing on the Series X - Annabelle collects Nintendo Game and Watch 🏖️ you’re very welcome Paul, we release our review of this car tomorrow evening 😀
The review is now live if you’d like to see my joy 😀 of 5
Hopefully we got zrv hybrid soon
Cool, we really enjoyed our adventure, the hybrid system is great as are the dynamics, what colour will you go for?
Best bit of kit i bought for my car!, ordered mine last week❤
Great to hear did you take advantage of our deal and save a tenner?
My neighbours love mine when i start it up at 4am to go work most days😂😂
Reminds us of our Valver on a cold start.
Will it work on a Tesla's OEM browser?
Hmmm good question - il check with Tech Wizard ReyMattMD
The Tech wizard has its own Google and Google chrome Web browsers. Won't need to use the Tesla browser once the Tech wizard is connected, this is a reply from Tech Wizard hope this helps.
@@PlanetautoUK but devices like these only shows up in the Tesla's web browser. That is assuming the device works even if there is no wired carplay in the car

If at all possible on a vid il try and colour code at least one item, thank you Szymek
New Torres now available to road test 😊
We’ve both ice and ev coming in July 😍
I enjoyed watching the video review 😊
Good to hear Jamie 😀
Seat Mii Electric hands down. Suits my driving profile perfectly and I like the Insurance Group 12 rating. Charge it on a Home Charger night tariff at 7.5p a Kilowatt (over 4 miles a Kilowatt in winter, up to 6 miles in summer) and you’re laughing. Keep battery charging profile between 20% - 80%, use it mostly for city use (I don’t leave London - and we have a Yaris capable of 400 miles on a tankful - 35 litres), and the Mii is the perfect commuter / runabout. Perfick…!!!😊
This would be our pick, such a fun little car, 😍 shame they went off sale.
The Italian NEW Mini !!
Bertone 😍
I know this is an okd video now. But I recently tried to book a test drive of the T90ev and was told they aren't any, the only stock is what dealerships have and no more coming. I suspect they are clearing the decks for the new model, with 4x4? Will it be the GST? Or the Interstellar? The Interstellar looks very much like the T90/T60 with a heavily revised interior.
Oh random, we have one booked for a month in August, I expect we’ll see the 4x4 in Autumn, we”ll see what we can glean, thank you Greg
Ps which dealer was this please?
Like your review the mg is a great family car and the swift is great , I myself owned a swift attitude for 5 years it was a superb car . very good looking and reliable and fun to drive
Nothing new here with exploding vehicles. Too much weight on our innocent roads.
You can tell that from a few seconds? Watch the full review and you’ll see it’s worth a second look Dallas.
Did you say "Android Auto"?!? Does that actually work?
It works in OS 7 - 8, i3s seems to have a variant meaning Apple works yet AA needs integration however it’s relatively easy with say something like a Tech Wizard BMW, apologies for the confusion Thor.
Have you done a long range trip/video of the Genesis, I got my packed lunch, flask and tartan blanket ready for the day out but I can't find any trace of the video 😊
It’s underway, review first 😀 shouldn’t be too long Peter, thank you
@@PlanetautoUK I will get my slippers on and Pj's ready for the trip........ 👀
@peterhulbert 😊 il start it tomorrow
I noticed you attached a dongle to the box . Is this recommended to buy as an extra or does it come with the dongle?
It comes with the air mouse 🐁 😀
There are roads like this in the middle of north penines too. Wouldn't go up them at that speed though..in that weather!
Good tires, dynamics and weight, and more so know my limits, that was tame, I drive to the conditions, and having grown up in the South Lakes, and learnt to drive here I’m at an advantage. The Valver behind kept us at a mediocre speed, if we were in our own Valver it’d been a few different story. Not everyone can drive or even feel confident on roads like these.
Not worth the money right now. The next version should be better. This one has issues. Like this horrid infotainment.
The infotainment is fine the first gen version in ZS etc was slow and response wasn’t great this is leaps and bounds ahead, with more features.
A copy of Classic . Retro . Modern . Suffices for me !
Not much use whilst your driving 🫨 as for parked catch up on your favourite You Tubers 😀 I’d likely read a book too

@andrewwilliams6936 ah yes, private plate 🤔
I saw review of the Honda Logo on another you tuber and the you tuber actually bought the Honda Logo she was so impressed by the Honda Logo
Honda cars of this age are very good, hence why we have an ej9 😀
@@PlanetautoUK ln Australia we get a lot of JDM cars particularly from Toyota and Nissan but there maybe a Honda Logo around somewhere and its easy to pick out a JDM Toyota vehicle is the front badge on each different vehicle is different no Toyota badge but l am getting to know them

Hi guys hope you are both well . If it ever comes to britain could you do a review of the mg marvel r awd and could you try a toyota bz4x thanks lee .
Of course Lee, new MG3 soon and have you seen the Solterra review only difference really is the awd system, powertrain identical. Shout if you’d like a link posting, thank you
